Hull New Theatre Summer School etc

Hull New Theatre is an incredibly prestigious venue, a fantastic space, and for one week a year, they make us feel at home!

We are delighted to have run Summer School etc projects for six years! From 2012 when we looked at highlights of Grease to 2017 when we put on The Wedding Singer in a week, it has always been an absolute pleasure.

Perhaps the most memorable of these projects was Bugsy Malone in 2013. With good sales in the period running up to the project we had a whole bunch of people turn up on the day too! 78 young people took on the challenge of putting on the whole show in a week and with Birgitta Kenyon on hand and thinking quickly on her feet, we triple cast the show. Three Bugsy’s. Three Tallulah’s. And a really big talent show in the middle of the play!

The audition process is informal, friendly and there was an opportunity for everyone involved. It was great to put young people on the stage who might not otherwise get the chance.

After a break in 2018 we look forward to working with Hull New Theatre again in the near future.

“It was a fantastic experience for them all. I knew my middle child would love it and is always full of confidence. However, my eldest is very shy and she said to me after day one she wasn’t sure she could do it and may not go back tomorrow, and didn’t want to audition for a part. I said this was fine and we will see how she felt in the morning. She did go back the next day and came out beaming. You some how gave her the confidence to audition for a part and got one. She was so pleased and loved every minute of the performance (I could see the smile on her face the whole time) so thank you for giving her this chance it has really helped her self-confidence.”
